Madrevite’s “Gamay del Trasimeno” umbrian bet

As in a Renoir painting, the lush hills dotted with woods, olive groves and vineyards surround Trasimeno lake and gently slope towards the mirror of water that reflects its image.

In that territory Nicola Chiucchiurlotto and Madrevite are the perfect synthesis between the absolute respect of the territorial agricultural tradition and the intuition that makes it contemporary: farmers by experience, dedication and mission committed to the enhancement of Gamay del Trasimeno, planted in 2009 with its own clone .

An immeasurable love for this vine, so much that a blog is entirely dedicated to it: www.gamaydeltrasimeno.com (visit the website for more details)
The company is located between Umbria and Tuscany, in the hills that embrace Trasimeno and Chiusi lakes. For three generations the wine producers who have handed down the unchanged and profound bond between man and nature.

Nicola begins to restore the family business in 2003 when he decides to replant part of his grandfather Zino’s old vineyards, dating back to 1978: “My cultural roots are firmly clinging to the earth – says the founder of Madrevite – I have always been a winemaker. In my family, the winemaking tradition tells a timeless story that speaks of wisdom, perseverance, collaboration, scrupulousness and trust. I wanted to write another chapter of this story, taking advantage of the wealth of knowledge that has been transmitted to me ”.
The company is located in the municipality of Castiglione del Lago, in the province of Perugia, within the “Trasimeno” DOC: an area of great charm, with incredible views and lush nature. Gamay del Trasimeno, Trebbiano Spoletino, Grechetto, Sangiovese and Syrah are the protagonists of Madrevite, all vinified in purity thanks to the oenologist Emiliano Falsini.

Here Gamay del Trasimeno has nothing to do with Gamay grown in the French region of Beaujolais but belongs to the Grenache family and its different names (Cannonau in Sardinia, Tai Rosso in Veneto, Garnacha in Spain or, precisely, Grenache in France). Gamay, a native grape of Lake Trasimeno, has acquired a precise identity here: “It is evident that Lake Trasimeno has transformed it, giving it a new dimension: it has provided it with balance and enriched it with nuances. It was used to resisting very hot and dry climates, but here, where the climate is more windy and humid, it expresses itself with greater elegance and freshness ”.
60 hectares of land – 11 of which are vineyards – which extend over three different hills of Trasimeno: “It is the territory in which I was born and that I want to continue to enhance – continues Nicola Chiucchiurlotto – The Madrevite is an ancient tool used in the cellar by the winemakers Umbrians of the past to fix the door to the barrels full of wine. It symbolizes the link between the past and traditions which, combined with modern agronomic and cellar practices, constitute the true essence of our wine production “.
Gamay del Trasimeno, one of the most important grapes of Umbria, which has found its ideal habitat here, is the vine that best represents the company that tells it in three different versions:
