Gambero Rosso guide, the best wines (region by region): the new three glasses – Umbria
It was one of Vinitaly’s top tastings. In the guide Vini d’Italia 2022, which contains the Italian wine excellences, twenty-five thousand labels have been reported but only 476 have been awarded with the prestigious award.
The wine is called Trasimeno Gamay C’Osa Riserva 2019 and is a singular interpretation of the gamay grape, vinified in purity by Madrevite, a company from Castiglione del Lago, in the province of Perugia and straddling Tuscany and Umbria. This reality, located in the heart of the “Trasimeno” DOC area, tends to use a single vine in the production of its labels, to preserve the qualities of that grape and the territory that hosts it. C’Osa, which means “who dares”, is aged in second passage French barriques and then left to rest in the bottle for another 6 months. Ruby red in color, the nose reveals hints of berries, floral notes and spices. On the palate it is instead of pleasant freshness and good persistence. Perfect in combination with red meats.
